Hi everyone,

I'm currently stuck at home with family, so any form of self bondage is dead for me right now...my solution wasn't to give up, but rather write about it...and given this is my first bondage story - my first story I'm wriitng that isn't for college or something...I figured I'd find out what people like.

So far, I'm being a little more wordy - I have real paragraphs, so it looks like a story, more than a script. It's about self bondage, so there's less dialog to it as well...and I describe what is going on in more detail - what the person is wearing, getting ready, how they struggle and what they feel, what goes through their mind. Any thoughts on this? The poll allows multiple choices, but for most of the choices, you'll pick one or the other. Please do post as well, I really look forward to any advice!

Edit: Phooie - the poll doesn't let you use checkboxes (you can vote multiple times though)...oh well, post your thoughts! Thanks! Smile

I think what's most important is that you write a story that you like. If you enjoy the writing process then the finished product will show it. The writing process should be just as much fun for you, if not more, as it is for your readers.

Hi Ashleigh,
I like stories where the thoughts, emotions and sensations are described - told in the first person works well for me - scene setting helps me get in the head of the characters though I prefer the majority of detail to be in the bondage parts. I like things to be realistic - well at least kind of believeable compared to a totally 'out there' fantasy situation. Longer stories appeal to me but for me to invest time in reading it has to be well written - proper sentences, paragraphs, some speech and spell checked (typos are a complete irritation as they pull me out of being lost in the story).

But first and foremost I think you should write your story for you.
Good luck.
Trish

I'm going to be a darn nuisance and not vote.  Tongue

Seriously, good writing is never a case of choosing between alternatives; it's always a matter of doing what is appropriate for the story you're trying to tell, and pacing it accordingly.

Personally, I find that when I start a story, I have a rough idea of the scene or endpoint where I want to get to. The details tend to fill themselves in as I go.  Which probably explains the length of my efforts so far ... The story has to work, and the best way to figure out if it's working is to go back and read what you've done and see if you like it.  If you don't, discard or rewrite it.

I'm going to agree violently with Trish & Bob about writing for yourself. This isn't a job or a college assignment. Ultimately, there's no way to please everyone, so don't even try.  The only person who really has to be happy with what you've done is you.  It doesn't actually matter how off the wall your story is, there will be someone out there with kinks that align closely enough with yours that they'll enjoy your story.

Finally, I'd echo the comments about formatting and spell checking.  You'll be forgiven for the odd missed typo, but it doesn't have to be very bad before it gets sufficiently hard to read that folks just give up.  From your original post, it doesn't look like that's going to be an issue for you, but it's worth making the point.
