Re: Fiberglass full body cast
Yes by Filador! Was my longest adventure so far - 3 days or so I recall. The cast was awesome, but I had problems with my sinuses and got a headache which kind of spoiled things a bit. This is why part of my face is exposed in some pictures. We ended up having to remove the entire head cast, which was a pity.

Looking great!
2 days is the longest I have kept someone mummified so far. Thanks for the inspiration to keep pushing!

i would prefer to get the legs and arms separately wrapped, but it still looks very restrective.
and you got a whole casting team? 3 persons? you´re a lucky guy...

Re: Fiberglass full body cast
In fact my legs and arms were wrapped separately first, then together to achieve the mummy look.
Even my fingers were individually wrapped.

Well thanks a lot Zoro! Unfortunately nothing along those lines planed at the moment.
The black one was almost exactly one year ago. I don't get to do this enough.

Here's a couple pics from some "combo" FBCs with Filador50. A "combo" FBC starts off with body stockinette, cotton padding, then wrapped in coflex followed by a tight wrapping of fiberglass rolls then completed with a thick layer of plaster rolls. Total cast thickness ends up being 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick with some areas in the midsection and groin getitng over an inch thick. This is a pretty long process and adds some very intense sensations during the encasement and curing process of the plaster.
The fiber, as casters know, goes through a heat cycle for about 10 minutes as it cures and hardens. Following the application of around a 1/2 inch of plaster, it goes through several cycles; heat followed by several hours of damp clamminess and then it gets quite cold for 6-8 hours. It takes almost 24+ hours before its fully cured and you settle into a very tight, rigid, comfortably warm, extremely rigid and unescapable full body shell.
When you're encased in a fiber FBC, you can still feel your caretaker scratching the cast to let you know there's someone there. When you're fully encapsulated in almost 120 lbs. of fully cured fiber and plaster, you have absolutely no sensation from outside your shell of anyone’s presence.
This has got to be the most intense form of sensory deprivation and highest level of unescapable mummification a person can experience. There is no safety to get yourself out. Your only way out of this impregnable prison of fiber and plaster is 2-3 hours of the grinding sound of a cast saw, slowly cutting you out.
Without your caretaker, you would eventually die in this tightly fitting coffin of fiberglass and plaster.

OK;
How long did you stay in the casting; I once saw a person stay for 3 days.
WOW !!! That is something I could only dream of.

Wow, plaster and fiberglass. That sounds super intense. I've only ever done leg and arm casts, but always wanted to do a FBC. My new roommate said he'd be down to help me out with this dream of mine. So right now I'm planning on doing a fiberglass FBC for a day. Any advice, method tips, safety notes for first timers?
