From my personal experience, the cage experience depends on the size of the cage.
If the cage is so small that you can't change positions in it, it will be very painful.
The floor of the cage is just as important, a mesh one is much more painful.

Re: Cage experience
Yep. My cage (a large dog cage) is about 1.2m long, not big enough to stretch out, and while it's fine for a while, after a few hours it gets quite uncomfortable, especially if one is trying to sleep in it.
I put a (removable) padded floor in that sits on top of the barred bottom and frankly I would not want to spend any time in it on without the floor.
I have a water bottle and urine bottle arranged in it for longish lock-ups.
Re: Cage experience
Being put to sleep in a cage, being placed in extremely small cages, and having the soft padding removed from the bottom of the cage. All of the above were used as punishment for me, and they are all painful memories.ruru67 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2024, 02:10Yep. As for being caged for long periods of time, having something to distract you from can also help reduce pain. Although sometimes this kind of thing is prohibited.
Re: Cage experience
Thanks everyone for the replies, it's interesting to hear your experiences.
Last winter we bought a cage where I can stretch my legs and sit down (but not stand if the cage is horizontal).
With some pillows on the floor It can be made comfortable, I spent a few nights sleeping there and had no problems.
As many have said the size of the cage matters a lot.
